Rotary Foundation Trustee Hipólito S. Ferreira, an accomplished engineer in Brazil, died on 25 November. He was 78.
Ferreira was the president of a group of engineering and mining companies led by Paineira Engenharia. He was also the director of SICEPOT, the State of Minas Gerais Heavy Construction Industry Association.
A Rotarian since 1970, Ferreira was a member of the Rotary Club of Contagem-Cidade Industrial, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He served Rotary in many capacities, including as RI director, training leader, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, member of the Operations Review Committee, and chair of the Literacy Task Force for Latin America. During his term as president of the Brazilian Association of The Rotary Foundation, donations doubled.
Ferreira received the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award. His three sons participated in Interact, Rotaract, and Rotary Youth Exchange, and two of them are Rotarians. Ferreira and his wife, Marilene, are Benefactors and Major Donors.
He is survived by Marilene, three sons, Julio, Bruno, and Leonardo and their spouses, and seven grandchildren.

Ferreira was serving a term as Foundation trustee from 2019-23. Rotary International President Holger Knaack will nominate a replacement to be elected by the RI Board of Directors at its January 2021 meeting.
